FAQ

Boat Trailer, Boat Lift, and PWC Bunk Board FAQs

Our marine carpeted bunk boards are designed for boat trailers, boat lifts, and PWC lifts, built with pressure-treated lumber, 25-ounce marine carpet, and corrosion-resistant galvanized hardware.

Q: What type of wood do you use for your bunk boards?

A: All bunk boards are made from pressure-treated lumber designed to resist rot, moisture, and outdoor exposure. This makes them ideal for long-term use on boat trailers, boat lifts, and PWC lifts.

Q: Do you offer bunk boards for aluminum boats or aluminum trailers?

A: Yes. For aluminum boats or trailers where pressure-treated lumber may cause corrosion, non-treated lumber is available upon request. Please specify this when placing your order.

Q: What type of carpet do you use?

A: All bunk boards are wrapped with 25-ounce marine-grade carpet, designed specifically for marine environments. It provides durability, UV resistance, and helps protect your boat hull during loading and unloading.

Q: What kind of fasteners do you use?

A: We use hot-dipped galvanized staples and lag bolts to secure the carpet and hardware. These fasteners are highly corrosion-resistant and built to withstand harsh marine environments.

Q: Why do you use hot-dipped galvanized hardware?

A: Hot-dipped galvanized hardware resists rust and corrosion much better than standard fasteners, especially in wet and marine environments. This helps ensure the carpet stays secure and the bunk boards last longer.

Q: Do you use carriage bolts?

A: Carriage bolts are available by special request. Our standard builds use lag bolts, which provide strong, reliable mounting and easier installation for most applications.

Q: Are the bunk boards glued?

A: No. The carpet is not glued to the boards. This allows the carpet to breathe, prevents trapped moisture, and helps extend the life of both the carpet and the wood.

Q: Are the boards sealed or coated?

A: No additional sealants or coatings are applied. The pressure-treated lumber already provides protection against rot and moisture, and leaving the wood unsealed allows it to dry properly.

Q: Do the bunk boards come pre-carpeted?

A: Yes. All bunk boards are fully carpeted and ready to install when you receive them.

Q: Are these bunk boards suitable for saltwater use?

A: Yes. The marine-grade carpet and hot-dipped galvanized fasteners are designed to resist corrosion and perform well in both freshwater and saltwater environments.

Q: What sizes of bunk boards do you offer?

A: Bunk boards are available in multiple lengths and widths to fit most trailers, boat lifts, and PWC lifts. If you need a specific size, custom lengths can often be accommodated.

Q: Can you make custom bunk boards?

A: Yes. Custom sizes and special hardware requests (such as carriage bolts) can usually be accommodated. Contact us if you need a specific configuration.

Q: Will these bunk boards scratch my boat?

A: No. The marine-grade carpet is designed to protect your boat’s hull and provide a smooth surface for loading and unloading.

Q: How do I measure bunk boards for my trailer or lift?

A: Measure the length of your existing bunk boards and the width of the wood underneath the carpet. Most trailers use either 2×4 or 2×6 boards, but it’s best to verify your measurements before ordering.

Q: How long do bunk boards typically last?

A: With proper use, pressure-treated bunk boards with marine carpet can last many years. Lifespan depends on water exposure, climate, and how frequently the boat is used.

Q: Do you sell replacement bunk boards for boat trailers?

A: Yes. These bunk boards are commonly used as replacement bunk boards for boat trailers, boat lifts, and PWC lifts. They come fully carpeted and ready for installation.

Q: Can these bunk boards be used on a boat lift?

A: Yes. Our carpeted bunk boards work well on boat lifts, boat trailers, and personal watercraft lifts. The marine carpet helps protect your hull while providing smooth support.

Q: Can these bunk boards be used on PWC lifts or jet ski lifts?

A: Yes. These bunk boards are commonly used on PWC lifts and jet ski lifts, providing a durable carpeted surface that protects the hull.

Q: Why should bunk boards be replaced?

A: Over time, marine carpet can wear out and wood can deteriorate from constant water exposure. Replacing bunk boards helps protect your boat hull and keeps your trailer or lift functioning properly.

Q: What size bunk boards do most boat trailers use?

A: Most boat trailers use 2×4 or 2×6 bunk boards, depending on the trailer design and boat weight. Always measure your current bunks to confirm the correct size before ordering.

Q: How often should bunk boards be replaced?

A: Many boat owners replace bunk boards every several years, depending on water exposure, carpet wear, and how often the trailer or lift is used.

Q: Are bunk boards easy to install?

A: Yes. In most cases, bunk boards can be installed using basic tools and existing mounting brackets on your trailer or lift. We also offer Installation at our shop.

Q: How do I know these bunk boards will fit my trailer or lift?

A: Most boat trailers and lifts use standard 2×4 or 2×6 bunk boards, but the best way to be sure is to measure your existing boards for length and width before ordering. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us and we can help make sure you get the correct size.
